The Short-Term Exchange Program at the Faculty of Dentistry with Partner Universities in Indonesia and the Philippines was Held

From November 10th to 21st, 2025, 20 students of 8 universities in total from Indonesian universities, namely Gadjah Mada University, Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta, Hang Tuah University, Sultan Agung Islamic University, Hasanuddin University, Mahasaraswati University of Denpasar and Udayana University, and Southwestern University from the Philippines, visited Japan and participated in a two-week short-term exchange program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Tokushima University.

This program has been running since last year, and with some changes to its content, it is now being carried out as part of an international educational collaboration with the aim of learning about prevention and countermeasures for oral frailty and dental care.

During the program, 20 faculty members gave lectures on cutting-edge research and the latest topics in dentistry, and participants engaged in lively discussions. They also had the opportunity to observe dental treatment at Tokushima University Hospital and visited Swedish Dental Kokufu and Excel Dental Research Institute, providing a firsthand look at the field and techniques of Japanese dental care. These experiences will contribute greatly to the participants' future career development.

Furthermore, through interactions with international, graduate and undergraduate students, participants were provided with valuable opportunities to deepen their understanding of each other's cultures and values. The Japanese culture experience program involved experiencing traditional cultures such as the tea ceremony, calligraphy and kimono wearing as well as visiting famous sites in Tokushima and experiencing the charms of the region. These activities not only deepened the bonds between participants but also resulted in meaningful international exchange that will strengthen friendly relations between Japan and Indonesia, and between Japan and the Philippines.

This short-term exchange program was extremely meaningful for the participants, not only allowing them to acquire academic knowledge but also contributing greatly to promoting intercultural understanding and building international networks.
